5 best handcrafted sustainable jewellery ethical guide

5 sustainable jewellery brands you need to know about!

We are slowly growing as a platform and are so happy to be able to help small business grow. I love when objects, accessories and clothes are unique, one of a kind. Handcrafted jewellery is exactly that: artists only create one or two similar pieces leading to a piece of sustainable jewellery.

I was supposed to go to a wedding. Obviously, everything got cancelled because of the current situation. However, it did not stop me from looking for statement pieces to add to my outfit. This is how I found those 5 creators and their absolute wonderful pieces. I had the luck to talk to them to know more about their brand and products.

Here are 5 of my favourite sustainable jewellery brands.

Ps: if you click on the brand name you can read the full interview we did with them!

Lunar James with Arianne Wijdeveld

Price £

Goal: “to inspire people to think more carefully about consumption and waste, and ultimately to appreciate and love nature more.”

Searching Instagram for nice jewellery for a beachy look, I found the account @ lunar.james. I love the fresh ocean vibes that the account gives us. But even more to like is their sustainable approach.

After talking with Arianne Wijdeveld, the founder of Lunar James I reviewed all the aspect of our business and here is how sustainable it is :

  • environmental friendly: the materials are mainly shells collected over the years by herself. (This is also why those creations are quite unique). The pearls that she uses for certain design are from a well-known factory in the UK. The wholesaler is following ethical and sustainable practices. For the metal used, she mainly uses eco-silver which is made out of recycled metal.
  • economic: she created a small business out of raw material that can keep several years due to its high-quality products. She is also using UK manufacturer to help with some raw materials such as pearls or wood.

Here are some of her pieces:

Ditale Studio

Price ££

Goal: “My goal is to offer people the choice of good quality jewellery that will stand the test of time. That’s why our designs are timeless as we don’t like to follow trends. Investing in a good quality piece of jewellery is something unique. My goal was also to make people appreciate the love and care is put into a handmade piece, where everyone involved into this process gets paid a fair wage, appreciate craftsmanship again.”

We love that coming from a family of jewellers they continue the traditional work with sustainable and recycled material. The fact that the workers are paid a normal wage and they use of gemstone created in a lab (no miners) is helping to create gorgeous pieces at no life cost.

Maria, the owner of Dilate, is passionate about our work and our client satisfaction. If you are searching for a minimalist and simple jewellery you found your shop.

Luna and Pearl

Price £

Goal: “Offering simple and beautiful bijoux made fully of recycled and sustainable material”

Luna and Pearl is a beautiful brand for its simplicity and commitment. Luna creates the design herself as well as each ornament.

For the pearl she buys them in auction from elder people. She is using as the wire a non-recycled one as she could not find any local business offering them. It is nice to see her dedication to using local business to create hers. Every piece she creates are biodegradable and are durable. A beautiful piece of earrings at that price is a steal. Kind Jewellery with Tansy Haak

Price ££££

Goal: “The KIND ethos is to be inclusive & collaborative, and above all to look after our planet and the people who we share it with. The ultimate goal is to create pieces of jewellery that not only have their own story but that will become embroidered into the stories of the people who wear them.”

I love their commitment to finding the best products and deals while reducing as much as they can they carbon footprint. For their creations, they use gold and silver recycled and responsibly sourced.

They are transparent and I appreciate that. They work with a small artisanal mine in Peru (Fairmined label).

Always looking at their carbon footprint and at the impact of humanity on earth they decide to work with a charity “one tree planted” to plant a tree every time a piece of ornaments was made.

Annabelle Hardie: my favourite!

Price ££

Goal: “to make unique pieces that are adored and adorning my customers for many moons to come”

“Life is too short to be like everyone else, the way you dress has so much power in conveying who you are and how you want to feel that particular day, it can be transformative”

Talking with Annabelle, not only did I love her creation process, I was, also, so happy to see her view on fast fashion and her take on it. (find her thoughts here).

Looking at the ethical and sustainability part, well there is nothing to say but I am just loving her brand and her creation process:

  • all the raw material come from her travels around the world as well as vintage shop around her area in Spain.
  • clients can send their old ornaments and she proposes to give them a modern look,
  • she makes small business around her work to help create a more circular economy and help the local community.

Her creations are my favourite. They are statements pieces with a dash of bling and colour. Here are my favourite pieces and their prices:
