Kind Jewellery with Tansy Haak

I decided along with our article about 5 of our favourite sustainable jewellery brand to interview them. Here is our interview with Tansy Haak from KIND Jewellery.

How did the idea come to you?

“KIND Collection was born after a wild adventure through Europe, India & Sri Lanka in 2016. The time away gave me the freedom to explore what was important to me and how I wanted to shape my future. Setting up KIND encompassed all of my passions from designing and working with my hands to all things indie business. From its conception, it was important that KIND and its creations made a positive contribution to the world and so every part of KIND leads back to sustainability and how we can consciously minimize the impact our actions have on our earth. “

Where do you find your material?

“Is it sustainable or renewable? For our permanent collection we use recycled and responsibly sourced solid Gold & Silver. The recycled precious metals are made up of a mixture of preloved jewellery pieces and small electronic parts and the material is melted down and refined in the UK. Our Bespoke & Wedding collections also offer the choice of Fairmined gold & silver which are newly mined by a small scale artisanal mine in Peru. We also launched a curated line of vintage pieces in spring which have been incredibly popular. Wherever possible we use local suppliers and independent businesses which helps to support our community and reduce our carbon footprint. “

What is the process of creation?

“The ultimate goal is to create pieces that will be worn for a lifetime rather than a season so I tend to avoid trends and concentrate on simple shapes and forms which will stand the test of time. I am a true moon baby and love all things Luna so most of my designs incorporate a little of that magic. The KIND Rework x Recycle services and our One of a KIND pieces give me a chance to experiment with different ideas & techniques and I really love being able to offer some truly unique pieces. “

What is your goal with your products and brand?

“The KIND ethos is to be inclusive & collaborative, and above all to look after our planet and the people who we share it with. The ultimate goal is to create pieces of jewellery that not only have their own story but that will become embroidered into the stories of the people who wear them.”

We are so happy to see that for each product bought you plant a tree: can you tell us more about this?

In September 2019 we partnered with charity One Tree Planted and pledged to donate one tree for every piece of jewellery we make. The amazing initiative plants trees all around the globe to restore our planets woodlands and rainforests.
