10 sustainable new year’s resolutions: let’s do this together!

Let’s do this together!

“This year will be different… “we always think that right? I am the first one to be so eager for the new year. I motivate myself, write down some resolutions which end up in nothing… Nothing, two days of motivation, of writing, for nothing.  But this year I want it to be different. I want it more sustainable and mindful.

There is a poem saying

” remember the time of the year when the future appears,

Like a blank sheet of paper, a clean calendar, a new chance(…)” From Jackie Kay.

We reached a point of no return for our planet. And, even though, we, consumers we are not the main problem we still can influence the change.

This is why this year I want to make it work, I want to challenge myself and do it. I know that a lot of you are thinking the same. So why not do this together. I have several sustainable new year resolutions. Feel free to comment yours and let’s motivate each other throughout the year.

Here are my 10 sustainable resolutions:

  1. Reduce my consumption of meat and fish on a weekly basis and only buy from a fresh fishmonger or butcher. Even though it is more expensive I think it is worth it, in terms of environment and taste.
  2. Invest in less toxic rechargeable cleaning products.
  3. Swap two disposables into reusables: Razors, tote bags, cups and/or reusable water bottles.
  4. Reduce the packaging bought: buy in a bulk supermarket the items you can.
  5. Find new ways to reduce your kitchen waste: pickled vegetables, crisps and more.
  6. Check second hand or charity shop before buying new.
  7. If you need to buy something new, buy from a mindful brand/ slow fashion brand.
  8. Declutter and donate what you don’t need anymore.
  9. Join a cleaning community to your closest beach or park.
  10. Influence your friends and family to do at least one small change.

Obviously it is easy to get lost and try to do everything at once. But this is not the goal! Let’s take one sustainable challenge at the time. Let’s make sure we implement change in our lifestyle to not go back to our old habits.
