Sustainable and modern skincare - nor more overload products

Everyday modern & Sustainable Skincare routine 1O1

Skincare was never my forte. I used to not know when to use which cream and what is the use of it. I decided one day to do my research and find what would work for me best. However, with everything we find on the internet, it is hard to know which product is actually useful. I also wanted to find more natural, organic, zero-waste products and it was more difficult than expected.

In this serie, we will talk first about the suggested skincare routine and what you should actually do. In future articles, you will find for each type of products some organic/natural/ sustainable brands, and the favourites of your favourite influencers.

Morning skincare routine 101:

Every beauty guru will tell you that you should sit for one hour in front of your glass and take care of your skin like it was your only thing. Well yes, you have to take care of it, but we do not all have the time nor the money to follow their routine.

First is the cleansing part, because, during the night, natural oils that is inside your body came to “pollute” your skin. If you have oily skin you should even double cleanse.

After that, you have to use a toner. It CAN help (experts are not one hundred per cent sure and it depends on your skin complexion) with pores.

Once this is done you can begin with serums. Serums are high concentrated product to help with one problem: ageing, tightening pores, acne and more. According to Faceserum website, it exists 6 different types of face serums.

We continue the morning routine with eye cream. Eye cream is a high concentration moisturizer which in general cost three times of a moisturizing cream for 1/3 of the quantity. Most of the eye cream actually claim they help with dark circles or bags under the eyes but satisfying results are rare.

Then depending on your skin, you can add an acne cream to help with reducing the inflammation of your skin. Of course, they will explain to you that the inflammation is not due to the numerous cleansing you do and the product you add to your skin to peel it or over-cleanse it.

We continue with moisturizer. It is one of the last step because of its consistency. It exists thousands of moisturizers today that market their product as the best one that will help your skin stay healthy and dewy.

To finish with this one hour super expensive morning skincare routine you have to use an SPF 50! To be honest this is super important and should not even be recommended but a must. Nowadays laboratories managed to create a cream with SPF 50 that will not hurt your skin but fully protect it, whilst protecting the environment.

You can start your day with all those products on your face that are promising you a long and juvenile skin without wrinkles.

Night routine:

Your day has gone by. Your skin has been through a lot, air dry, pollution, lack of hydration…

So to take care of it, you decide to put in place a nighttime skincare routine.

You begin with a cleanse which is quite needed. It takes of the pollution, the makeup, the oils and else that your skin has been dealing with all day long. Some people will double cleanse just to make sure their skin is fully clean.

Then you can tone it again, followed by an eye cream and next is the acne treatment.

You can use other treatment such as ageing or peeling or else.

Then quite important part is a mask or oil to help your skin calm itself for the night and be nourished.

Last is moisturizer.

Following this routine all day you might have gone through more than 10 products. And if you are a beginner you might not even know which product works and which does not.

What you should actually do?

Yes, this skincare routine can be amazing. It can really help balance your skin and give you this glowy dewy skin you have been dreaming about.

But if you are a beginner, you should not go directly into this 10 steps routine with products you have not taken the time to try.

If you think that because your favourite YouTuber or blogger love one product you should use it, well, sorry to tell you, but it might not work for you. Having an amazing skin with a product that actually works for you is a long and sometimes painful process. Try first a cleanser for a month. When you are sure it is good and do not provoke any rash to your skin go with a moisturizer. Then go for a sunscreen as those three are the biggest and most important products. When you find those two you can begin to add some products to your routine.

If you are keen to learn about organic/ natural products and you want to make sure the ingredients you are using are safe for you, several apps can be used: Think dirty or Yuka. They will help you find a better product every time.

In the next article, I will show you some of the best cleansers from sustainable and organic brands.
